Kazakhstan's transition to the Latin alphabet will promote closer understanding of Turkic people, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan Zakir Hashimov said.


President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev, speaking at a ceremony dedicated to the 21st anniversary of the independence of the country, said that Kazakhstan will switch from the Cyrillic to the Latin alphabet by 2025, Ca-News reports.

"Azerbaijan is one of the first countries from CIS that made ​​the transition from Cyrillic to Latin. At the present time, all citizens can freely write and read in Latin," said the diplomat.

He expressed hope that Kazakhstan will be able to overcome the difficulties of transition from Cyrillic to Latin more quickly.

He added that over 130,000 Azerbaijani people live in Kazakhstan, and most of them can speak good Kazakh language.
