Kazakhstan FM: Delegations appreciated contribution of the President of Kazakhstan to the organization of Astana process
Another meeting of high level within the Syria peace talks took place in the capital of Kazakhstan on February 15-16, 2017. Delegations of the Syria government and the armed opposition, guarantor states of a ceasefire regime – Russia, Turkey and Iran, and also Jordan, the United Nations, as the USA observers have participated in the meeting. Delegations have expressed gratitude for the organization of a meeting and have highly appreciated a practical contribution of the President Nursultan Nazarbayev to search of ways of settlement of the Syrian crisis on a platform of Astana, BNews.kz reported.
Negotiations in Astana are aimed at providing practical progress in process of the Syrian settlement through implementation of the arrangements made at the first meeting on January 23-24, 2017 and concerning truce agreement the Press Service of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan reports.
Following the results of two-day negotiations guarantor states have reported about coordination of provision on joint task force on monitoring of the mode of cessation of hostilities. Among group tasks – ensuring delimitation of groups of the armed opposition from the terrorist organizations and strengthening of measures of trust for advance of political settlement of the Syrian conflict. The joint group will regularly hold consultations concerning observance of the mode of cessation of hostilities by the parties, to investigate cases of violation of the resolution 2254 UN Security Councils, to prevent escalation of violence and to promote simplification of a humanitarian situation in Syria.
Besides, the agreement on further work on documents on the fixing of violations of a ceasefire regime and areas which have joined a truce is reached.
Kazakhstan welcomes the reached agreements and considers results of the regular meeting of the Astana process as a practical step in creation of conditions for advance of the intersyrian dialogue, including at the forthcoming negotiations under the auspices of the UN in Geneva.
Kazakhstan is ready and to render further all necessary assistance to the international efforts on stabilization of a situation in Syria, in particular through the participation in work of the UN Security Council.
