A. Guterres: Kazakhstan plays important role in creation of bridges on international scene
Chairman of the Senate Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev met the elected Secretary general of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, BNews.kz correspondent reports.
K. Tokayev congratulated the Portuguese politician on election on a post of the UN head and expressed confidence that A. Guterres being an experienced diplomat, politician and manager will give an additional impulse to the Organization. He noted effective activities of A. Guterres on a post of the UN High Commissioner for affairs of refugees which headquarter is based in Geneva. According to K. Tokayev, A. Guterres quite successfully resisted to all challenges of the international crises and conflicts which led to unprecedented increase the number of refugees (up to 60 million), the press service of the Senate of parliament of Kazakhstan informs.
K. Tokayev considers that mission of the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council is not issue for Kazakhstan diplomacy. Activities of our country in the UN Security Council will promote strengthening of capacity of this global organization for working for peace, sustainable development and human rights protection. Kazakhstan recognizes that fight against terror, settlement of the conflicts, ensuring sustainable development and many other problems of the present require the coordinated work of the UN system and common efforts of all state members. Therefore our country will support activities of new UN Secretary General A. Guterres.
According to the elected Secretary General, Kazakhstan is capable to help the UN with minimization of international tension and achievement of necessary decisions. A. Guterres considers that problems of disarmament, counteraction to terrorism, interreligious dialogue, economic development and others should become the key spheres of collateral actions of Kazakhstan and the UN. Therefore within the visit to Astana the new Secretary General intends to adjust a working platform of interaction with the Kazakhstan side.
