A. Mukhamediuly: I’m very concerned about Kazakhstan athletes

30 November 2016 17:33

Minister for Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan Arystanbek Mukhamediuly expressed concerning for Ilya Ilyin and other Kazakhstan athletes in whose doping tests illegal substances were revealed, BNews.kz correspondent reports.

"I’m very concerned about our athletes, Ilya Ilyin and other weight-lifters who got into this situation," he said.

Earlier the Ministry of Culture and sport of Kazakhstan proposed amending the law "On physical culture and sport" and to impose criminal liability for doping.

"We want to enter the law on using of doping in 2017. Why? Because only athletes were guilty in this situation. Where those people who managed sport at that time? Why the doctor does not bear responsibility? Who is the doctor? When they got medals, everybody got medals, including ministers. Therefore we want to bring the law responsibility for doping. Not only athletes, but the doctor, the trainer and the state agency will bear responsibility," the head of department declared.

As it was reported earlier, the IOC withdrew medals from six weight-lifters from Kazakhstan. Cancellation of Ilya Ilyin’s results of the Olympic Games 2008 and 2012 became the last decision at this moment. Also Svetlana Podobedova, Maya Maneza, Zulfiya Chinshanlo, Irina Nekrasova and Maria Grabovetskaya lost medals.
