The fifth international meeting on Syria will take place in Astana on July 4-5
The fifth international meeting of high level on Syria within the Astana process will take place on July 4-5 in Astana. It was reported by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Anuar Zhaynakov, BNews.kz reported.
Participants plan to discuss the situation in Syria, the course of execution of the agreements reached following the results of the previous rounds of negotiations in Astana including the creation of zones of a de-escalation in the territory of Syria.
It is expected that guarantor states of the mode of cessation of hostilities – Iran, Russia and Turkey – will consider the documents regulating parameters of zones of a de-escalation in Syria for their subsequent statement, and also will discuss questions of ensuring easy humanitarian access, restoration of infrastructure facilities within the memorandum of creation of zones of a de-escalation in Syria.
The previous meeting of high level on Syria within the Astana process has taken place on May 3-4, 2017 in the capital of Kazakhstan. Along with guarantor states delegations of the government of Syria and the Syrian armed opposition, and also high UN officials, Jordan and the USA have taken part in negotiations.
Signing by guarantor states of the memorandum of the creation of zones of a de-escalation in Syria directed to the violence termination, preservation of unity and territorial integrity of this country, and also political settlement of the conflict became the main outcome of a meeting.
The Astana process is the additional channel for settlement of the situation in Syria. It is known that the main platform on which interested parties gather are the Geneva negotiations under the auspices of the UN.
