Kazakhstan climbers set up national flag of Kazakhstan on the highest point of Antarctica
The special gift for December 16 is presented to all Kazakhstan citizens. National flag of the country is set on the highest point of Antarctica – Mount Vinson (4,892 m) for the first time in the history of the country, on an Independence Day of Kazakhstan, BNews.kz correspondent reports. Magzhan Sagimbayev congratulated all Kazakhstan citizens on the Independence Day from Vinson peak – the highest point of Antarctica.
Famous climbers Magzhan Sagimbayev and Ilyas Galimbekov are participants of polar expedition. They made high-speed ascension on Vinson peak in spite of the fact that weather conditions repeatedly introduced the amendments in the schedule of ascension. Climbers had to wait fog and snowfall in the lower camp for several days, the press service of the Kazakh Geographical Society reports.
Expedition is divided into two stages.
Today the first stage is complete - it is ascension on Vinson peak and a raising of flags. The Vinson peak is considered as one of the most hard-hitting tops of the climbing program "7 summits" because of its geographical arrangement. The 50th anniversary from the date of the first ascension on Vinson is celebrated this year. Thanks to successful conquest of peak, Magzhan Sagimbayev and Ilyas Galimbekov filled up our moneybox in which there is already other significant climbing Elbrus and Aconcagua.
The second stage will begin in several days. Athletes Magzhan Sagimbayev, Ilyas Galimbekov, Yury Yushin and also researcher Daulet Sharipov fulfilling duties of the doctor in team will make a ski expedition to the South Pole. Athletes should make a battle march in 217 kilometers.
After completion of "Independence Pole" expedition, promotion of the offer from Kazakhstan on establishment of the automated scientific station in Antarctica is planned.
Let's remind, the expedition "Independence Pole" is conducted under the auspices of Assembly of Kazakhstan people and also with assistance of the Republican Public Association "Kazakhstan National Geographical Society" (QazaqGeography).
