Nursultan Nazarbayev's revelations: What is the price of Kazakhstan independence
President Nursultan Nazarbayev told in the movie "25kz: The contemporary history" about what difficulties the country faced during independence formation, how the national currency established, where the money to construction of the main buildings of Kazakhstan came from, BNews.kz correspondent reports.
"To get independence is joy, it is good, it is happiness. But the main thing is to keep this independence. Many did not keep, but if they did then get chaos, bloodshed and wars. If we went on this way to joy to our enemies who said that independence in Kazakhstan is impossible we would open internal dismantling in ourselves and did not even get independence. Interethnic concord in Kazakhstan was one of radical questions of strengthening of independence," Nursultan Nazarbayev said in the movie "25kz: The contemporary history".
The president admitted the fact of lag of Kazakhstan from the western countries after disintegration of the Soviet Union.
"When the Soviet Union collapsed, we recognized that we lagged from the developed western countries for 40-50 years on the equipment, technology, education, even on production of clothes for consumer goods. As they flanked us, we had to adopt their experience, not to invent the bicycle.
Kazakhs are fully presented today in the state, have all opportunities to develop the culture, language, history, anything. But it is necessary to make it that way that will be interesting to everybody, not by pressing: give, study, otherwise you are second-class citizen. It is unpleasant to act this way with other people. Therefore all history goes to the fact that traditions of the Kazakh people develop and at the same time it does not press on culture of our other citizens," the President said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev told about crisis and what difficulties the country faced during the establishing of national currency. For this purpose Kazakhstan had to borrow millions dollar from the International Monetary Fund.
"When implemented our tenge it was very complex arithmetic and mathematical problem. How to release money? What notes should be? What ratio to world currency should be? How to distribute and then to build a financial system in Kazakhstan? It was necessary to invite experienced people from the International Monetary Fund, from Russia. To put tenge into circulation, it was necessary to have at least 500 million dollars of an allowance in national bank. We did not have it.
We borrowed from the International Monetary Fund. We had to. Then we returned this money with great difficulty ahead of schedule. We worked with the International Monetary Fund in the first years, they gave money to us. We had nothing. We had no money to pay pension, salaries and to support needy.
The currency fund always causes the money: to cut down these expenses, exceed taxes, pension at you absolutely big, to reduce salaries, cut down the staff, etc. If you will not do it then the International Monetary Fund will not give money. It was necessary to do it. We had to do it," Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
