What will heads of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan discuss in Astana behind closed doors?

Kazakhstan is a reliable partner and country, successes of which Azerbaijan sincerely rejoice. This is demonstrated by the recent visit of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in Baku on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Elkhan Alasgarov, PhD, head of the Baku Network's expert council  talked about topics that will be discussed by the heads of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in Astana behind closed doors, BNews.kz correspondent reports.

Under the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan in Azerbaijan, the  several documents were signed In particular, there are the cooperation agreement between the railway authorities in the field of logistics, rail transport engineering, the intergovernmental Protocol on amendments to prevent tax evasion. The intergovernmental agreement on international road traffic and the program of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries for the years 2017-2018 was signed.

Azerbaijan expert stressed the priority development of transport-transit sphere of rhe two countries, in particular through the Caspian Sea.

"Kazakhstan expects the introduction of railway line Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK). This option will substantially increase turnover  at the specified direction. The strategic cooperation between Baku and Astana in the energy sector is not less crucial, where both countries are important players on the world market. Certainly, the leaders of the two States have paid attention to the political and legal status of the Caspian Sea. Increase of trade turnover between the two States depends largely on coordinating positions of the Caspian Sea", he said.

Alasgarov  said that in Azerbaijan there are also expectations that Kazakhstan, as a non-permanent member of the UN SC will increase its attention to existing regional problems.

"Relating the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the two countries have common positions due to the implementation of the adopted UN resolutions on this issue. It is obvious that open  Karabakh problem is not in the interest of Russia and the regional States, and threatens the new difficulties in the international system of coordinates. Negotiations in Baku on the Karabakh problem can be considered as the assistance from Astana. Kazakhstan supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and this makes a constructive contribution to the political process of unblocking the territorial dispute between Baku and Yerevan", the spokesman said.

Speaking on the bilateral cooperation and the outcome of the negotiations, Azerbaijan political scientist noted personal confidence and friendly relations between the leaders of our countries.

"The positions of the two countries on all issues under discussion are the same. At the end of the visit, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed gratitude to the President and people of Azerbaijan for its hospitality and wished prosperity and well-being. Kazakhstan's leader invited President of Azerbaijan is Ilham Aliyev to participate as a guest of honor at a meeting of the SCO and the opening of Expo-2017 in Astana", he said.

Analyzing the results of the meetings of the two leaders in Azerbaijan, it is expected that the proposed visit of President Ilham Aliyev in Kazakhstan during Expo 2017 will focus on two important themes-economic and geopolitical.

Membership in the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, also in the  Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is important . Considering that 2017year for Azerbaijan was declared the “Year of Islamic solidarity” and a month, Baku will host the Islamic games and in Astana in September this year, the OIC Summit will be held, the exchange of views between the heads of the two countries is becoming crucial. The themes mentioned above will be the prevalent at the talks behind closed doors in Astana during the forthcoming visit of President Ilham Aliyev at the meeting of the SCO and the opening of Expo-2017. On the Great Silk Road bridge  “Baku-Astana” across the Caspian Sea is built”, Alasgarov summed up.
