18 thousand foreign students study in Kazakhstan
This year 18,000 thousand students from different states have come to Kazakstan to study, in the next 5-6 years Kazakhstan will be an educational hub, Yerlan Sagadiyev announced. To this end, the Ministry takes a number of actions.
This year Kazakhstan has received 18,000 foreign students, Yerlan Sagadiyev, the Kazakh Education and Science Minister, announced, BNews.kz reported referring to INA Kazinform.
"In Kazakhstan, 18 thousand foreign students are studying, many of them are from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (...) Our main task is to attract 40 thousand students a year. If the number increases by 20%, then Kazakhstan will become an educational hub in the next 5-6 years. So as to reach this task, a number of measures are taken, they are: universities use English as a language of instruction, new programmes are prepared, universities obtain freedom," said the head of the Kazakh Ministry of Education and Science following the 7th Meetings of the Ministers of Education of the SCO member states.
According to the Miniter, Kazakhstan has agreed to receive even more students from India in medical occupations, and we, in turn, will send our students to study MA and PhD programmes in IT.
"Both of our countries have the areas at which we are good. So, students of the two states would find it interesting," said Yerlan Sagadiyev.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) includes Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.
