Anti-terrorism trainings of CSTO states finished in Kazakhstan

Following the trainings, the CSTO Secretary General said that a technical base of a training centre of the National Guard of Kazakhstan fully corresponds to modern requirements for training special purpose units to operations in real combat situations.

On May 22, on the base of the Centre of Military and Methodical Training of special purpose units of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an active phase of tactic and special training Kobalt-2018 was held with special purpose forces of the CSTO Collective Forces, BNews.kz reports with reference to a press service of the National Guard of Kazakhstan.   

The trainings were attended by units (operative groups) of the CSTO member states, leaders of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, the Internal Forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Federal Service Forces of the National Guard of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, the National Guard of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The trainings were designed for joint actions of collective forces to eliminate illegal armed units.

In major maneuvering, there were more than 700 military soldiers, more than 70 military and special vehicles, as well as 5 aircrafts. More than 500 bullets and shells were used. Unmanned aerial vehicles were actively used to conduct reconnaissance.

The uniqueness of the training was the creation of a single operative headquarters to control the training. In addition, command-staff training with the security agencies that are included in the special purpose forces was held for the first time.

The main aim of the training: to increase the level of cohesion of management agencies of special purpose forces of the CSTO member states; to drill and improve joint skills in the management of forces and means during trainings and special operations to eliminate illegal armed units; to improve the level of field trainings and cohesion of actions to form forces and means of collective security, elaboration and acquiring new forms, means of performing tasks appointed, as well as modern weapons, military and special vehicles, special means.

In the first stage of training, formation and deployment of forces and means of special purpose forces of the Collective Rapid Reaction Force of the CSTO in the area of special operations were held.  

In general, the trainings were held at a high level, special purpose forces of the CRRF CSTO demonstrated the high level of readiness and professionalism. It was said in the speech of CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov during closing of the trainings.

“Today, tactic and special training Kobalt-2018 with special operation force units has been successfully held. Colossal work has been done, training and military tasks to combat terrorist organizations have been elaborated. This is serous training for combat work in case of applying our Collective Forces,” said Yuri Khachaturov.

He underlined that the National Guard of Kazakhstan and its leaders seriously approached to the necessity to hold and prepare for trainings.

“An operative headquarter of special units has been formed for the first time, and it was created on a good material and technical base,” said the CSTO Secretary General.

He also noted that: “We being in the Republic of Kazakhstan plan to resolve several important tasks, that is, to hold regular inter-session meetings of the Council of Defense Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of CSTO Security Councils in Astana, which are scheduled on May 23-24.”

“A structure and headquarters of the management agency of special purpose forces will be submitted for consideration and approval in the upcoming the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO Security Council,” said Yuri Khachaturov.

He also noted that taking into account that the fight against terrorism is a priority of the Organization, it was important to elaborate joint actions of special forces of the states during special operations in the central Asian region.

Then, he thanked all representatives of the CSTO member states for an active participation in the trainings, and noted the leadership of the National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan for favorable conditions of the event. 

“A technical base of a training centre of the National Guard of Kazakhstan fully corresponds to modern requirements for trainings to actions in real operations of special purpose forces,” said the Secretary General.

At a closing ceremony, the best soldiers of special forces of the CSTO states were presented with a medal “25th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty”, awards of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and National Guard of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as with valuable presents.

“As of today, the CSTO has real capabilities to resolve the tasks set. Over the least years, the Organization has established itself as an authoritative and effective regional establishment. A huge experience was gained based on partnership, openness, mutual respect and trust,” said CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov.
