Astana Innovation Challenge: From open data to smart traffic

The Mayor’s Office of Astana will hold a contest of technological projects on the theme Open data in the Hackathon format on February 24-25. The participants will find solutions to the tasks of the public transport, city ecology and increase of awareness of citizens, reports.

The peculiarity of Hackathon will be meeting of state officials, public figures, journalists, investors and experts for the participation in “A fair dialogue and accurate solving of problems.” In particular, this discussion will be useful for developers, who will be able to know from leading experts and first heads of state bodies the developments which are in demand today and how to attract investment and it realization.

Following to Hackathon, three best startup projects will be selected, which will receive 1 000 000 tenges from the general partner JSC Kazakhtelecom and partner companies Microsoft Kazakhstan and Here Technologies.

At the same time, the most talented developers will be able to visit Moscow to exchange experience with counterparts of the Skolkovo Fund. :

The tasks, which should be by members at Hackathon on February 24-25:

to create services on tracing public transports and the transport system of Astana;

to plan transport flows taking into account passenger flows in buses;

to increase awareness of the population through city events;

to model the ecological situation of the city and to inform the population and others;

All of this will be possible by the portal of open data, the presentation of which will be held within Hackathon and will be another step in establishing the digital future. 

Astana Innovations Challenge.

It is a project, which was launched in June last year. The goal is to implement the concept of Smart city by involving citizens to solving city technological tasks, that also leads to the establishment of interactions between the Government and startup projects.  

According to the results of the past year, the project received the great coverage among citizens and corporate sector – more than 1.5 thousand participants, 30 partner companies, 18 teams, which received cash reward, as 10 projects that entered the market and in the launch stage.

The organizers of the contest are JSC “Astana Innovations” and Business-incubator MOST.
