Astana-Paris int’l cycling marathon kicked off
Blind and visually impaired cyclists take part in the marathon.
Blind Race Astana-Paris international cycling race with the participation of blind and visually impaired cyclists started on the square at Kazakh Yeli monument in Astana, BNews.kz reports with reference to the site of Mayor’s Office.
The event is taking place within Sport beyond the limits project. The figure 6 features this project as a total number of participants is 16 among which 6 are blind and visually impaired cyclists.
The race will cover more than 6 thousand kilometers and 6 countries among which Russia, Belarus, Poland, and Germany.
Head of the project Sports beyond the limits Bakhtiyar BAzarbekov noted the aim of the marathon to show unlimited powers of people with disabilities. The slogan of the team is "There is a goal - no obstacles at all”. The preparation to the marathon held the whole year.
For the cycling team, this is the third cycling marathon. Last years the event covered Almaty and Issyk-Kul, this time the athletes will travel around the largest cities and capitals, such as Moscow, Minsk, Warsaw, Berlin, Frankfurt-am-Main, and Paris, where they finish on September 8.
Vice Minister of Public Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Berik Aryn acknowledged the special significance of the project, wished the athletes a long and happy journey, and the head of the Department for Public Development of the Daniyar Yesin expressed gratitude to the people for their motivation to perform and create such feats.
It should be noted the marathon is a patriotic initiative aimed at the creation of the motivational platform and exchange of experience with public organizations of other countries. It is realized within Rukhani Zhangyru Look into the Future, Anashym Foundation for Support of Children and Youth with Vision Disabilities together with Kazakhstan’s Association of small and medium business.
The event is supported by Nur Otan Party, Astana Mayor’s Office, the Ministry of Social development of Kazakhstan, Public fund “Support and Development of Sport named after the Olympic Champion Alexander Vinokurov," the Paralympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Federation of Cycling Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Association of Small and Medium Business
To date, more than 23 thousand people with special needs registered in the capital. Work on creating a barrier-free environment for disabled people is held on an ongoing basis. Thus, during the last year, Astana Mayor’s office installed 200 ramps to the sidewalks, almost 100 square meters of tactile plates for visually impaired people, mounted 1606 devices with a sound signal, 300 pedestal call boards with a tactile vibration signal.
Besides, 742 city buses are equipped with folding devices (gangways) for easy landing and disembarkation of passengers with limited capabilities (wheelchair users).
In addition, 145 entrepreneurs among which owners of Hippocrates drugstores network, Tsesna Holding, Taikazan network of canteens intends to update their facilities for the needs of people with disabilities.
It is interesting the project is a part of a complex program "Astana is a city of strong people's spirit". This project is aimed at creating a barrier-free environment for low-mobility townspeople and providing conditions for their livelihoods, equal with the rest of the population.
