First center for industrial design opened in Almaty

The main task of the center is to promote technologies of 3D printing for their further application in the machine-building sector.

In Almaty, the first Center for industrial design based on the Satbayev University was opened. The initiative was implemented under the support of the Ministry for Investments and Development of Kazakhstan, within the implementation of the tasks set in the Address of the head of state, says the press-service of the Autonomous Cluster Fund “Park of Innovative Technologies”.

“The main of the Center is to promote the technologies of 3D printing for their further application in the machine-building sector. This is a new type of machine-building, which changes the requirements to all accompanying processes, including to designing. While the traditional design is customized for machining on lathe and milling machines, 3D printers enable to produce details and units in accordance with functional requirements. This is a new approach, which is part of generative design, where engineers and designers depict parameters of the task to the program that independently shapes the product. That is why, this initiative is being implemented under the active participation with universities, in order to train specialists, who will able to work and adapt to the ongoing changes. Thus, our final goal is to change the whole process from design and projecting to its introduction in machine-building,” director-general of ACF “PIT” Sanzhar Kettenbekov said.
