Health minister of Kazakhstan about maternal mortality’s root causes
Yelzhan Birtanov urged governors of regions to held sessions concerning the decrease the maternal and infant mortality.
“The indicators for maternal and general mortality in the framework of the Densaulyk (Health) State Health Development Program for 2016 - 2019 were not achieved in the first half of the year,” Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yelzhan Birtanov informed, BNews.kz correspondent reports.
Having reported the interim result of the implementation of the State Program for 6 months of 2018, Yelzhan Birtanov noted that the first indicator of the results of the State program, which is not achieved, is the overall mortality.
"In the indicator’s structure, the main components are mortality from diseases of the circulatory system, respiratory organs, malignant neoplasms, as well as trauma and poisoning. The most unfavorable regions for this indicator are the North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Akmola, Karaganda, and Pavlodar regions," the health minister reported during the meeting of the Government.
In his words, the second indicator is maternal mortality. Due to an analysis of regions with a negative dynamic, a number of root causes were unveiled. Among them are the deficit of obstetrician-gynecologists and anesthesiologists-resuscitators, the lack of managers for obstetrics in health departments, and the later taking of pregnant women into account. Akmola, North Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kyzylorda and East Kazakhstan regions prevail in this indicator’s scheme.
In this regard, the head of the authority underlined for the purpose of prevention of maternal mortality, health departments need to strengthen work with women of childbearing age and conduct organizational and management activities in medical organizations.
Birtanov urged governor of all above-mentioned regions to hold meetings of staffs to reduce maternal and infant mortality for the adoption of the above measures and the implementation of the standards of the Ministry of Health. And on the basis of the results of the 3rd quarter to hold a separate meeting in the Government on this issue.
