Hockey club from Kazakhstan wins Continental Cup for the first time
The “Arlan” hockey club based in Kokshetau has won the Continental Cup in the Northern Ireland for the first time in the history of Kazakhstan, beating the opponent team in the final match – 3:2 in favor of the team from Kazakhstan.
Kokshetau-based champion hockey team of Kazakhstan “Arlan” has won the Continental Cup, Kazakhstan Hockey Federation informs.
In the final match of the Continental Cup final round, “Arlan” met with the host team Belfast Giants, with two victories and six points gained by each team.
In the first period, the team from Kokshetau took the lead by scoring two pucks. However, players from Belfast Giants evened the score within one minute in the third period. The main time and overtime were not enough to find out the best team. In the following penalty shot, Kazakh hockey player Evgeny Gasnikov brought a victory to his team, thus becoming the best Arlan team player of the match.
“I will remember this match all my life, I am happy. I will pass on such moments to children and grandchildren. We’re cool and emotional. This happened for the first time, some time is needed to process everything we’ve been through,” said Evgeny Gasnikov.
The “Arlan” hockey team has become the first holder of the Continental Cup in the history of Kazakhstan.
“It is complete relaxation after a hard match. It’s good that we’ve won, thank everybody. After a second goal, the opponents could get a hold of the match, a few could resist. We could have an early victory, however, there was a penalty shot. Psychology was key, the weak one lost. At the moment, this is the high medal in my entire career. Hope to perform again with a better game,” said netkeeper Ivan Poloshkov.
