In EEU, registration of subjects of intellectual property to be simplified

The entrepreneur should go through the five national registration proceedings in each member state of the EEU.

The Board of the EEU has submitted the regulations of the introduction of a single customs register of subjects of intellectual property of the member states of the Eurasian economic union, the EEC press service reports.

“The regulations give the opportunity to the owners of trade marks, subjects of copyright and related rights when registering the subjects of intellectual property in the single customs register to submit an application to the Commission. The mechanism laid in the document enables the customs bodies to effectively protect the rights of the owner of subjects of intellectual property, as well as to prevent import and distribution of counterfeit goods within the union. The entrepreneur should go through the five national registration proceedings in each member state of the EEU. It will considerably simplify the proceeding of the protection of the rights, reduce financial and temporary costs of the owners, relating to the prevention of violations of their rights beyond the Union,” says the press release.

The regulations include requirements for forming and submitting applications, the terms and the order of their consideration, the order of their inclusion into the single register of subjects of intellectual property, the order of introduction of changes, exclusion of these subjects from the register, as well as the order of publishing information of the single register on an official site of the Union. The document provides for the use of modern paper-free information techniques, that will simplify the interaction of the owners, Commissions and central customs bodies when considering applications and having a single register.

“In order to implement such information interaction, the commission will finish the work on agreeing the draft technological documentation. As a result, the owners could submit applications for including the subjects of intellectual property into a single register in an electronic mode,” says the press release.
