Income from iron ore production in Kazakhstan increased by up to KZT63bn
Kostanay, Karaganda and Akmola regions accounted for the largest volume.
Following the 1st quarter, the mining companies of the country produced iron ore for 63.2 billion tenge, that is by 0.8% higher than a year ago, BNews.kz correspondent reports with reference to EnergyProm.
Kostanay region (87.1% of Kazakhstan’s share, 55.1 billion tenge, that is by 2.9% less than a year ago), Karaganda region (10.4% of Kazakhstan’s share, 6.6 billion tenge, that is by 26.4% higher than a year ago) and Akmola region (1.6% of Kazakhstan’s share, 1 billion tenge, that is by 41.8% higher than a year ago) region accounted for the largest volume.
The largest producer of all the three regions is ArcelorMittal Temirtau, with its iron ore department, a subsidiary of Orken LLP, that gathers the company’s iron ore mining enterprises.
Kostanay region has the Sokolov-Sarbai Mining Production Association as the largest enterprise on production and iron ore dressing, which is part of the Eurasian Resources Group (ERG).
In Karaganda region, Metallterminalservice LLP (the deposit of Shoiyntas) and Bapy Mining LLP (the deposit of Bapy) operate in the sphere of iron ore.
In dressing, the increase is quite higher, thus the volumes of production of ferrous metallurgy rocketed by 17.7% year-on-year, to 453 billion tenge. The largest volumes are concentrated in Karaganda region (50.7% of Kazakhstan’s share), Pavlodar (25.2%) and Aktobe (16.7%) regions.
In Karaganda region, cast iron, steel and ferro-alloys are produced in the Karaganda metallurgical combinate (part of the Steel Department of ArcelorMittal Temirtau), Tau-Ken Temir LLP. Such companies as JSC Karvol, Zavod Metall Profil LPP, Kaz-Meriz LLP produce pipes, shapes, piping components wires and other steel units.
In Aktobe region, such enterprises as the Aktobe rail and beam plant, JSC TNC Kazchrome, which has an office in Pavlodar region, operate, as well as in Pavlodar region KSP STEEL, metallurgical company “Casting” operate.
In physical terms, the production of iron ore increased year-on-year by 4.8% to 9.8 million tons. Of which, 2.7 million tons are iron ore concentrate, that is by 11.4% higher than a year ago.
In the iron and steel industry, the production of rods and bars made of non-alloyed (+30.9%) and alloyed (+14.1%) steel, steel pipes (+36.6%), shapes and L-bars (+14.4%), as well as the crudest steel (+7.1% over the year), and ferroalloys (+1.1%) was increased considerably year-on-year.
Exports of iron ore decreased year-on-year following January-February of 2018 by 0.6% in tones and by 15.4% in monetary terms.
At the same time, following the most profitable exports position in dressing of ferroalloys, exports increased by 19.1% in physical terms and by 22.1% in monetary terms.
Another most profitable position, flat products decreased in tones by 2% over the year, and increased in monetary terms by 5.2%.
