It is planned to solve healthcare issues in the Aral region under the support of UNDP

To implement this task, the budget of 3 million dollars was allocated.

3 million dollars to improve the social and economic possibilities of the people living in the Aral region will be allocated by UNDP, the BNews.kz correspondent reports.

“The humanity has made a lot to preserve the situation of the Aral Sea and we are glad that many of efforts become productive. Our meeting focuses on to gather again and to solve what kind of things we can do. Many organizations, including the World Bank and the International Fund for saving the Aral Sea contribute to solve this issue, and today UNDP also wants to contribute. We intended to implement a joint project with colleagues from Kyzylorda, it is not a big one – 3 million dollars, but it focuses on to increase the social and economic possibilities of the people living in the Aral region,” UN Resident Coordinator and Permanent Chairman to Kazakhstan Norimasa Shimomura said.

According to him the project could solve the issues of healthcare in the region and in general will increase life conditions.

“It started a year and a half ago, when we met with the Governor of Kyzylorda region, where he proposed to elaborate together this issue with the aim to attract the attention to this issue. We hope that once we have discussed all details, we will reach good results. Our project is focused on three directions. They are social, ecological and economic. As for an ecological direction, we all know that quite big degradation occurs in this region that affects to possibilities of the people to live and work. The people used to do fishing, but now it is impossible. Drying of the sea hinders, therefore our task is to help the people in finding an alternative to earn money. We wanted to establish mechanisms of micro-financing or a new method that was tested with the huge efficiency to use water. We are sure that all these will benefit to the Aral region,” Norimasa Shimomura said.
