Kanat Bozumbayev: The bank of low-enriched uranium has no relation to nuclear wastes
It is an initial material for production of fuel and has no relation to nuclear waste. Often many confuse, in particular our domestic media, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev has urged not to confuse bank of the low-enriched uranium with nuclear waste, BNews.kz correspondent reported.
"It is 90 tons of a sulfur hexafluoride of the uranium placed to 4,75 on isotope uranium - 255. It is possible to make fuel of this material, for one loading of the reactor of nuclear power plant with power up to 100 MW. I will emphasize, it is initial material for production of fuel, have no relation to nuclear waste. Often many confuse, in particular our domestic media," the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev told.
BLEU under the auspices of IAEA will contain 90 metric tons of the low-enriched uranium necessary for nuclear fuel production. The physical reserve will be rather big for production of the fuel necessary for food of the big city for a period of up to three years.
"It is well-known that in far 2006 the American fund - the Initiative of reduction of nuclear threat, has taken the initiative of creation of the international bank of nuclear fuel which had to guarantee uninterrupted deliveries for nuclear power plants, in case of problems not of market character," the Minister of Energy Kanat Bozumabayev told.
