Kazakh leader invites Belgium companies to take part in AIFC's work

The head of state told the businessmen about the improvement of the investment climate and the creation of favourable conditions for doing business. 

 

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with representatives of the business circles in the City of Brussels as part of the working visit, BNews.kz reports referring to a press service of the Akorda. 

Addressing the participants of the meeting, the head of state outlined that the European countries were the important trade and economic investment partners of Kazakhstan. 

"Over the years of independence, around 180 billion US dollars of direct investment have been attracted to Kazakhstan from Europe. We closely cooperate with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development that over this period has financed the projects totalling up to 7 billion euros," said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

The Kazakh President underlined that the trade turnover with the European countries had shown the stable increase over the last years, noting there are around 3000 enterprises with the participation of European capital in different spheres in Kazakhstan. 

"Among our major partners are such companies as Alstom, the Linde Group, Air Liquide, Banone, Vicat, HeidelbergCement, that successfully operate opening modern production, new workplaces and profit," said the head of state.

In the context of expanding markets for European products, Nursultan Nazarbayev told about the benefits of Kazakhstan's geographic location.  

"5 railway and 6 international roads pass Kazakhstan linking China and other Asian states with Europe through Russia, the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea, including Iran and Turkey. Now freight transportation to Europe from China and back takes 4 times less than by sea," said the Kazakh President. 

The head of state emphasized the improvement of the investment climate and the creation of favourable conditions for doing business. 

"Kazakhstan is an associate member of the OECD Investment Committee, and just joint the Declaration on International Investment. The Council of Foreign Investors under the President runs in our country that includes 13 foreign companies with 33 European members. A visa-free regime has been introduced for citizens from 62 countries, including 33 European states," said Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Noting the importance to digitalize the economic sectors and to develop the innovation ecosystem, the head of state emphasized the implementation of the 'Digital Kazakhstan' national programme.

"The following innovation clusters as Nazarbayev University and the Park of Innovation Technologies function. In the present year, Astana launches the new International Technopark of IT-startups 'Astana Hub' with all necessary infrastructure that will attract IT entrepreneurs and investors from all over the world. The participants of the Technopark could enjoy simplified visa and labour regimes, as well as they will be given tax deductions," said the President of Kazakhstan. 

In addition, Nursultan Nazarbayev outlined the importance of European investors' potential as Kazakhstan's large companies prepare for the IPO and cooperate within a public-private partnership. 

The Kazakh President told about the support for agricultural producers within the national programme of development of the agro-industrial complex and underlined that in this sector the key priority was to increase the productivity with the introduction of new technologies and to process agricultural products for further export

"We place a great importance to develop tourism, the Concept of development of tourism is being implemented in our country. I suppose that the varied landscapes, rich culture and history of Kazakhstan, as well as the huge experience of European companies in this sphere can be mutually beneficial," said the head of state.

Then, Nursultan Nazarbayev told the attendees about the International Centre for development of green technologies and investment projects that will function on the base of the EXPO's infrastructure and will contribute to realising 'green' projects in the country and region.

"The 'Astana' International Financial Centre has been launched in our country. Its legal status is provided in the Constitutional Law, with English being its working language. The AIFC participants are given tax deductions up to 50 years, simplified currency, visa and labour regimes. The Centre is the only in the region with its activity based on English Law. I invite your companies to take part in the AIFC's activity," said the Kazakh President. 

Following the meeting, the Kazakh head of state expressed confidence that the meeting would even greater strengthen the mutually beneficial partnership between the states and wished success, well-being and prosperity to everyone.
