Kazakh peacekeepers win competitions in Lebanon
The Kazakh team took the 1st place overall in the 10-kilometer race, where representatives of 42 states took part.
Kazakh peacekeepers have become the winners of the sports contests in Lebanon, a press service of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan informs.
The vicinity of Tyre, Lebanon, held a race among athletes to time the 75th anniversary of the independence of Lebanon.
The 10-kilometer race run along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, with approximately 500 participants from 42 states of the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission.
Among Kazakh peacekeepers were squad leader Mayor Daniyar Maksut and military personnel Lance Corporals Bagdat Yeraliyev and Nurlan Turambayev. The Kazakh team showed the best results among the participating teams, thus took the 1st place. Indian peacekeepers were second, and Nepalese soldiers were third.
"Once receiving the invitation to the competitions, we selected three. They are not professional athletes but they demonstrate good results in training and sport. I am proud that the Kazakh team was first, thus represented our country with dignity," said Mayor Ayan Nurkasov, leader of the Kazakh peacekeeping squad.
