Kazakh Prosecutor General – number of those detained and arrested declined by one-third
Following protests of the Prosecutor General, the Supreme Court has amended 269 verdicts, the Prosecutor General said.
The General Prosecutor’s Office continues to reduce the regressivity of criminal proceedings and to strengthen its human rights capacity. It was said by head of the Ministry Kairat Kozhamzharov at the session of the collegium, BNews.kz correspondent reports.
“After the introduction of new institutions, the activity of the entire law enforcement system was restructured. This work gave its results. The number of those detained decreased be one-third from 8.4 to 5.8 and arrested from 6.8 to 4.8 thousand,” said Kairat Kozhamzharov.
Over six months, Prosecutors have released citizens from offices of law enforcement agencies and temporary detention facilities by 3.5 times higher.
Also, according to Kairat Kozhamzharov, following protests of the Prosecutor General, the Supreme Court has amended 269 verdicts.
As a result, according to the Prosecutor General, 12 people were justified, of whom three spent 1 to 7 years in prison.
Earlier, at the collegium, Kairat Kozhamzharov said that Prosecutors defended the rights of three million citizens.
