Kazakhstan and the UNDP to combat violent extremism

Nurlan Yermekbayev met with the UNDP resident representative for Kazakhstan.  

Minister of Religious and Civil Society Affairs of Kazakhstan Nurlan Yermekbayev received a delegation led by the UN resident coordinator of the United Nations Development Program for Kazakhstan Norimasa Shimomura, BNews.kz reports.

At a meeting, Yermekbayev noted the importance of the process of constructive cooperation with the UN Development program, as well as a great significance of regular consultations and contacts. He also told about the activity of the Ministry in the sphere of religious, civil society, as well as about the implementation of the state youth policy.  

“The sides discussed the issues of joint implementation of UNDP projects in the sphere of youth policy, civil society and fight against radical extremism,” said the press-service of the Ministry of Religious.

The Resident Representative of the UN Development Program for Kazakhstan, Norimasa Shimomura, informed participants of the meeting on the tasks and mechanisms to implement the projects of the UNDP “Strengthening of sustainability of local communities and trans-border cooperation in order to prevent violent extremism in Central Asia” and “Intensifying of civil participation and involvement of the population in volunteer activities to develop the human potential.”

“Following the discussion of the perspective directions of development of cooperation, the sides expressed readiness to close cooperation in preventing violent extremism among youth, as well as involvement of the population in volunteer activities,” said the Ministry.
