Kazakhstan citizens are more and more in debt every year – experts

Every able-bodied Kazakhstan owes banks on average more than two monthly salaries. The most number of credits was taken by Almaty residents. The second - residents of Mangistau region, and in third place in terms of consumer debt - Astana.

The volume of loans to individuals for the year increased by 13.3% (and by 0.7% - from the beginning of the year) and amounted to 4.6 trillion tenge at the end of March 2018, BNews.kz reports with reference to Ranking.kz.

The volume of consumer loans to individuals increased by 18% in the year (from the beginning of the year by 1.9%) to 3 trillion tenge, which is 65% of retail loans (a year earlier - 62.4%, at the beginning of the year - 64.3%).

The level of consumer debt by the end of March 2018 grew by 16.9% year-on-year and amounted to 331.2 thousand tenge per economically active resident or 2.2 average monthly wages (a year earlier - 2).

The number of economically active population (EAP) for the same period grew by only 0.9% and amounted to almost 9 million people, of which 5.2 million - in cities and 3.8 million - in villages.

According to the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Almaty residents took the most number of credits - 1.2 million tenge (one year earlier - 1 million tenge) of consumer debt or 6.2 monthly salary (one year earlier - 5.8) per economically active resident of the financial centre.

The second is Mangistau region, where the volume of consumer debt per one economically active resident was 522.6 thousand tenge (a year earlier - 442.8 thousand tenge) or 1.9 monthly salary (a year earlier - 1.8).

The third place in terms of consumer debt is taken by Astana - 458.6 thousand tenge per economically active resident, which is 2.1 monthly salary (a year earlier).
