Kazakhstan FM  says about preparing for next meeting on Syria in Astana

Kazakhstan Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov   called all the sides interested in the resolution on the situation in Syria to support Astana and Geneva process and announced about the continuing preparations for the planned meeting in Astana in May, BNews.kz reports.

"We call all the sides interested in a peaceful settlement of the Syrian conflict, to support both Astana and Geneva process, which takes place under the  UN auspices", Abdrakhmanov said journalists.

He expressed the hope that all sides involved will support these processes by all available tools in their arsenal”.

"Kazakhstan is very interested in the fact that Astana process will involve all the sides interested in  cessation of hostilities. Not only those who already participate as observers, in our opinion, this round can be extended, but the guarantor countries Russia, Iran, Turkey have the final say", the Minister said.

"Of course, we are continuing to prepare for Astana meetings in May", he added.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov said that at the moment from the guarantor countries of the Astana process on Syrian the information about the planned meetings in Tehran and Astana is expected.

The third round of Syria peace talks took place in Astana, in March 14-15. Unlike the previous meetings representatives of the rebel groups have not attended the talks.  At the final press-conference head of the Russian delegation in Astana, presidential envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev said that the next round of talks will be held in Astana on May 3-4, and it will be preceded by a meeting of experts in Tehran, on April 18-19, during which it is planned to complete the documents.
