Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry responded to Lavrov’s statement on a visa-free regime for US citizens
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia said that not all US citizens, who arrive in Kazakhstan, had the right to visit Russia, and noted that this issue should be agreed within the EEU.
The Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry said that in the work over the agreement on the union, the member states refused to politicize it and to include the issues regarding the national sovereignty into the union’s competence, BNews.kz reports with reference to Sputniknews.kz.
“The Kazakhstan side believes that the visa-free regime will facilitate to the intensification of the international trade and economic, scientific and technological, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, increase the inflow of investment and development of tourism, multilateral contacts between the nations. The Eurasian economic union is not a political union,” official representative of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Anuar Zhainakov said.
We note that from January last year, US citizens can visit Kazakhstan within up to 30 days on business, tourism and private purposes without the visa application.
“This category of citizens when wishing to visit the neighbouring states, including Russia, should have the visa of the visiting country, unless there is another order of visiting between the states,” Zhainakov said.
We note that head of the Foreign Ministry of Russia Sergei Lavrov on Friday arrived in Astana to take part in a meeting of the guarantor states of reconciliation in Syria. Lavrov noted that presenting of a visa-free regime to US citizens by Kazakhstan would not be held without its agreement within the Eurasian economic union.
