Kazakhstan plans to reduce period of study in higher education institutions
New exams for students applying for fee-paying universities will be introduced as well.
A new instruction technology will be introduced in higher education institutions in Kazakhstan, within which graduates will study 2.5 - 3 years instead of 4 years. It was said by political scientist Sharipbek Amirbekov while talking about the President's Address, INA Kazinform reports.
"The attempt to close many higher education institutions has not turned out to be successful because of some reasons. It is believed that the education sectors, as well as businesses, should not see any interference, but the quality of education is national security. Kazakhstan has about 800 colleges and all of them should switch to the credit system of instruction. It means that after graduation students can enter universities and study 2.5-3 years instead of 4. The most important issue is graduates' employment. The President emphasized this issue several times. By the government's order, the norm was adopted according to which if graduators of universities do not find jobs, then their specialities and universities they have finished will be gradually closed," said Sharipbek Amirbekov.
According to Amirbekov, many private universities are interested to attract students because of profits. Now the state will monitor between the number of those enrolled this year and the number of those who will finish after four years.
"Exams for students applying for fee-paying universities will be introduced. Another novelty is the attraction of foreign top-managers, now foreign vice rectors and rectors are attracted. As an example, the first vice rector in the medical university is from Poland, and NARXOZ University's vice rector is from America. We will see whether it is effective," said the speaker.
