The agreement regulates the extradition matters of wanted persons between the two countries.

The head of state signed the law “On ratification of the agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on extradition,” Akorda reports.

It is noted that the text of the law is being published.

Earlier, Deputy General Prosecutor Andrey Lukin when presenting the law at the plenary meeting of the Senate of Parliament noted that at the moment there are not people who are hiding from the Kazakhstan’s justice system on the territory of Vietnam. And, there are no wanted Vietnameses in Kazakhstan.

“The agreement on extradition regulates the extradition matters of wanted persons between the two states for criminal prosecution or to execute statements of the court,” he said.

According to the speaker, the extradition is not held if the requested person is the citizen of the requested country; the requested person is sentenced to the death penalty or to torture; the requested person is sentenced for military offences; the terms of criminal prosecution have been expired.

According to Lukin, to date, 30 Vietnameses permanently live in Kazakhstan, and 70 Kazakhstanis in Vietnam.
