Kuryk port to increase volume of cargo transshipment
The development of a multimodal complex enabled to increase the port's transit potential and that of the republic.
For 10 months of this year, the volume of cargo transshipment in the port of Kuryk reached 1 million 335 thousand tons in the Mangystau region. About 460 port calls were made, 24.kz website reports
Over 50 transport infrastructure facilities have been built on the port's territory - this is a modern customs clearance building, a canteen, a hotel, and a hostel.
The multimodal complex is a link with the countries of the Caspian Sea. It is focused on the transshipment of grain, petroleum products, chemicals, consumer goods, industrial and construction materials.
After the launch of an automobile terminal, the port's transit potential, and that of the republic has increased, with goods shipped in transit from China and the Central Asian countries.
To develop port operations in Kuryk, the Borzhakty - Yersai railway line was created. Next year, the port of Kuryk plans to increase cargo handling volumes by 1.5 - 2 times.
"In 2019, we plan to increase cargo handling volumes. Today, cargo from the port of Kuryk is sent in export/import directions through Azerbaijan and Georgia to Turkey and Europe. The motor vehicle pier makes it possible to process up to 2 million tons per year. The average time of full processing of the ferry is 14- 16 hours, enabling to handle up to 3 ferries a day. Ferries can accommodate up to 32 heavy trucks," said Talgat Ospanov, a deputy general director at Port Kuryk LLP.
