National Security Committee: 125 Kazakhstan citizens came back from Syria, 57 convicted
The National Security Committee (NSC) notes the need to further improve the national system of countering terrorism and religious extremism.
125 Kazakhstanis returned from Syria, 57 of them were convicted. That was announced on the sidelines of the Government by Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurgali Bilisbekov.
"All of you know the ongoing process in the Syrian-Iraqi zone. Today, thanks to the consolidated actions of the forces of the Russian military and space forces, the settlement process in the Syrian-Iranian zone went on an amendment (changes for better). Today, 125 people were returned for (over) this period (note: the citizens of Kazakhstan), 57 of them were convicted. Continuous operational control and appropriate measures are being held on the rest of the people,” Bilisbekov said.
According to him, the level of propaganda of extremism and terrorism remains high in the world, which can contribute to the radicalization of the Kazakhstani society.
"These and other factors dictate the need to further improve the national system of countering terrorism and religious extremism," he concluded.
