Dariga Nazarbayeva congratulated Michael Gifford on the beginning of his diplomatic mission in Astana.

Chairman of the Committee on International Relations, Defense and Security of the Senate Dariga Nazarbayeva has received Ambassador of Great Britain Michael Gifford, a press service of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan reports.

Dariga Nazarbayeva congratulated Michael Gifford on the beginning of his diplomatic mission in Astana and expressed confidence in that the professional experience will facilitate to further strengthening relations between the states.

The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the meeting of Donald Trump and Kim Chen Un and the solution to the issue of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. According to Nazarbayeva, the results of the talks of the US and DPRK leaders became hopeful.

The Head of the Senate Committee highly praised the friendly and reliable nature of Kazakh-British relations, and noted that Great Britain is the main strategic partner of Kazakhstan. Extensive trade and economic, financial, investment cooperation has been established. Nazarbayev dwelled attention to broad prospects that are being opened for British banks and financial institutes in connection with the beginning of activity of the Astana International Financial Centre that operates on the principles of the English law.

The sides have discussed cultural and humanitarian contacts. Dariga Nazarbayeva with pleasure noted a productive nature of interaction in education, science, new technologies. The Senator called on the British Council and the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan to assist in the implementation of joint projects.

At the talk, the importance of interparliamentary dialogue was noted, in which a big role is played by the groups of friendship that operate in the law-making bodies of the two states. As Nazarbayeva noted, contact of the British Deputies with their Kazakhstan’s colleagues should become a determining factor in expanding and deepening relations between the parliamentarians of Kazakhstan and Great Britain.
