Kazakhstan leads in the number of mosques in Central Asia, Chairman of the Agency for Religious Affairs Kairat Lama Sharif said today at a briefing in the Central Communications Service for the President, BNews.kz correspondent reports.

According to him, at present 3,244 places of worship, 2,320 of which are mosques work in Kazakhstan .
"We believe that the number of places of worship, as a whole, meets the needs of the belivers. Our country has the highest number of mosques in Central Asia," K. Lama Sharif said.
"The number of mosques is enough for the whole region, but it does not mean a ban (in construction). At this time, 50 mosques are being built, which are on completion will be registered as branches of Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan," K. Lama Sharif said.
