Patients with serious diseases, who need to maintain treatment, from the beginning of the year cannot receive necessary medicines in pharmacies and policlinics, Askar Shakirov said.

Commissioner for Human Rights in Kazakhstan Askar Shakirov addressed to Minister of Yelshan Birtanov because of citizens’ complaints and messages in the press about the inadequate and not timely provision with medicines within the free medical assistance guaranteed by the state, says the ombudsman’s press service.

“The ombudsman concerns by the fact that from the beginning of the present year, the most vulnerable layers of patients, in particular, persons suffering from cancer, epilepsy, diabetes mellitus and hemophilia face with the absence of necessary medicines in polyclinics and pharmacies,” says the message.

It is also noted that it is necessary to take into account the treatment courses of the abovementioned patients that are long and continuous, and even after short suspension in taking medicines, it can lead to bad consequences.

“In this connection, it is necessary to take necessary steps to fill medicines and to restore the treatment process of the abovementioned patients without waiting the results of monitoring,” says the information.

We note, within the expanded meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Healthcare of Kazakhstan held on February 28, possible facts of violating the provision order of patients with free medicines were voiced, as well as the term to fix the situation till the end of April was defined.
