Such a kind of payment was introduced by Kazcommertsbank.

Holders of Visa cards from Kazkommertsbank got an opportunity to pay for goods and services using the QR code and mobile application Homebank.kz. The Kazakh bank was the first in the CIS and Europe to introduce mVisa technology, the Association of Financers of Kazakhstan (AFK) reports.

"The mVisa technology allows consumers to pay for purchases by scanning a QR code with a smartphone, and merchants accept non-cash payments without using expensive POS terminals, which greatly simplifies and reduces the cost of the process," says the report.

According to AFK, the first payments can be made with clerks in the Green bazaar in Almaty. Individual QR codes of each merchant are printed on paper and are on shelves with products.

At present, payment using QR codes is available to users of the Homebank.kz application for smartphones on the Android operating system. In the coming days, the same opportunity will be available for iPhone owners, the corresponding update will be available in AppStore.

"To pay via the mVisa service, the user of the mobile application Homebank.kz needs only to scan the seller's QR code using the smartphone's camera, and all the merchant's details will be automatically recognized and processed by the system. As the payment is initiated by the consumer himself as a transfer of funds (push-payment) the data of his card will not be required," says the message.

We note, at the end of last year Qazkom announced that in the near future it will launch the mVisa service first in the market of Europe and the CIS. Technology is still only available in several countries around the world, including India, Kenya, Nigeria and Rwanda, where the payment network also has significant development potential.
