Unique animal named Khariton brought to zoo in Almaty
The yellow-throated marten is the biggest and brightly coloured species of the martens on the territory of Russia.
The unique animal from Khabarovsk appeared in the zoo of the city of Almaty, BNews.kz correspondent reports with a reference to INA Kazinform.
"For the first time in 80 years of the existance of the zoo of Almaty, the unique animal - the yellow-throated marten - appeared here. It is the male named Khariton. The animal was brought to Almaty at the end of July of the present year from the zoo in Khabarovsk. It adapts to the new place over time, and try to hide from visitors," said the employees of the zoo.
We add, that the yellow-throated marten is the biggest and brightly coloured species of the martens on the territory of Russia. The length of its body is 55-80 centimetres, the length of its tale is 35-44 centemetres; it weights up to 5.7 kilograms. The tale is not fluffy. The fur is quite coarse, short and shiny.
Other new animals to the zoo were the lemurs. In the spring, two lemurs were brought from France. In the past week, other two pairs of the lemurs were brought. Now they adapt to the local climate, as well as to visitors and life.
