Up to five thousand convicted persons may be released in Kazakhstan - Kazakh Prosecutor General
According to the data of the General Prosecutor’s Office, as for 36 offences, the prison sentence is being reduced.
They told about humanizing criminal proceedings in the General Prosecutor’s Office of Kazakhstan, BNews.kz correspondent reports.
The General Prosecutor’s Office has designed a draft law aimed at further humanizing a criminal policy.
“Public works and restriction of liberty under 260 offences are being introduced. Fines, terms in prison under 36 offences are reduced. Prescription periods for serious crimes decrease by 5 years. It will lead to release of up to 5 thousand convicted persons. The work on strengthening the rule of law will continue. The law is already signed by the head of state,” said Kairat Kozhamzharov at the session of the Collegium of the General Prosecutor’s Office.
We note that 255 items were introduced to the Criminal Code, 16 – to the Criminal-Procedure, and 6 items – to the Penal Enforcement Code.
In addition, Kairat Kozhamzharov noted that crime in the army is decreased by 28%, administrative offences – by 45%, the death of soldiers – by 24%.
Following the supervision acts, the social rights of about 7 thousand militants to receive compensations, housing and community support were resumed.
In addition, at the Collegium, five digitalization projects included in the Digital Kazakhstan programme were presented.
“The general Prosecutor’s Office takes measures to digitalize procedures. Since the beginning of the year, more than 4 thousand criminal and 160 thousand administrative cases are being electronically investigated,” said Kozhamzharov.
During the Collegium, he also told that Prosecutors revealed 27 thousand offences of labour legislation.
“The rights of 45 thousand citizens have been defended. Wage arrears for the amount of half a billion tenges were payed off. For instance, according to Prosecutors 4.5 thousand workers have been covered for work accidents in Kazakhstan’s branch of Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V., KazMunayGas Bureniye LLP and others,” said Kozhamzharov.
We note that according to the General Prosecutor’s Office, after the introduction of new institutions, the activity of the entire law enforcement system of the country has restructured, the number of those detained has decreased by one third.
