We want to cooperate with all global forums – Nazarbayev about AEF

All world forums have a common goal – to search the solution from the situation, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted.  

The Kazakhstan President met with leading foreign experts-participants of the XIth Astana Economic Forum, a press service of the Akorda reports.

At the meeting held in a format of roundtable, global tendencies of economic development and trade relations were discussed, as well as the transition to a green economy, the use of alternative energy sources, the development of a transit and transport potential of Kazakhstan and digitalization of the economy.

Former President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves shared his experience in digitalizing the national economy and pointed out at the necessity to have a political will for a successful transition to a digital economy. Ilves emphasized the necessity to develop digital services, to ensure digital literacy and information security of users.

Deputy Director General of the World Trade Organization Alan Wolff told about the current situation and prospects to develop a system of international e-trade.

First Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Jurgen Rigterink noted the growth and change of Kazakhstan’s economy by pointing out the necessity to use a transit and transport potential of the country, possibilities of the agro-industrial complex and Astana International Financial Centre.

In turn, Secretary General of the UN Conference of trade and development Mukhisa Kituyi named the positive results reached by simplifying the customs declaration in Kazakhstan.

Nobel prize winner Rajendra K. Pachauri dwelled on the issues arisen in the aftermath of climate changes, as well as underlined the importance of development and expansion of the use of green technologies. He emphasized the currency of the topic and practical results of the international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 held in Astana.

Nobel prize winner Rae Kwon Chung also pointed out the necessity of the transition to a green economy and noted the positive aspects of the use of alternative energy sources.

Chairman of the Board at DP World Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem expressed interest to further deepen cooperation in the implementation of logistics projects. He told about the effectiveness of the use of the Aktau port and Centre for Cross-border Cooperation Khorgos.

Liam Maxwell, a British technology executive and public servant, shared his vision on the development of smart cities and the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the control over city processes.

After the reports of the leading world experts, the head of state thanked all attendees for the participation in the Astana Economic Forum and for the ideas announced during the round table.

“Europe holds the World Economic Forum, we hold the Astana Economic Forum, and Asia hold the Boao Asian Forum. They have the common goal – to search the solution to the situation. We want to cooperate with all global forums and to work for the benefit to states and nations. It is the possibility for a progress, promotion and understanding,” said the Kazakhstan President.

Nursultan Nazarbayev noted the contribution of all participants in the development and strengthening the authority of the Astana Economic Forum.

The head of state dwelled on the development of Kazakhstan, as well as told about the work experience to preserve and strengthen interethnic and international concord in the country.

“We ensured equality of the rights of all citizens in the Constitution, as well as at the legislative level and in practice. In Kazakhstan, representatives all religious confessions that enjoy freedom of religion live. The world leaders of the traditional religions decided to hold their conventions in Astana. This year, the regular VIth Convention is held,” said the President of Kazakhstan.

Nursultan Nazarbayev underlined that Kazakhstan had friendly and partnership relations with all neighbouring states.

The head of state pointed out that by the means of the measures directed to improve well-being of all citizens of the country, stability and concord are reached in our public.

“Over the years of independence, our economy has increased by 25 times. The GDP per capital reached 12 thousand dollars. Now, at the expenses of accumulated funds of the National Fund, we fulfil programs in infrastructure and industrial development, as well as in education and healthcare. Longevity increased by 7 years . We have a young educational generation and are ambitious about our future,” said the President of Kazakhstan.

At the end, Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed gratitude to all participants of the AEF, as well as underlined their proposals and ideas for further development of our state.
