Center for Green Technologies to be created on the basis of EXPO

The Green Technologies Center in Astana will work to develop a green economy in Central Asia, as well as in Iran, Afghanistan, Mongolia and Azerbaijan. This was reported during a briefing in the Central Communications Service by Ainur Sospanova, a Director of the Department for Renewable Energy Sources of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan together with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has completed the development of the concept of the Green Technologies Center in Astana.

The Center will be created on the basis of EXPO for several years and should promote the development of green technologies, primarily in the Central Asian region.

According to A. Sospanova, the Center will focus on Central Asia - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, as well as Iran, Afghanistan, Mongolia and Azerbaijan, and also it will cooperate with the countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the European Union, Russia, the USA, China, India and Latin America.

"The Center aims to select eight sectors of the green economy. They will develop strategies for these countries to develop the green economy, which will be used to transfer green technologies, to create scientific and technical conditions in each country, to develop country's policy", she explained.

To create the International Center for the Development of Green Technologies and Investment Projects under the auspices of the United Nations, as well as the Astana International Financial Center Astana (AIFC) was proposed by President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the session of the UN General Assembly.
